The Fat Fast Explained – And How it Can Work with HCG
Atkins Article : The Fat Fast
Counterintuitive as it may sound, if you can’t budge the scale , a few days on this regimen may well allow you to break through metabolic resistance.
Certain individuals are so metabolically resistant that only more intense dietary restrictions prove successful. Once medications, thyroid problems and candida are brought under control, almost all overweight people who diligently adhere to the Atkins Nutritional Approach™ will lose and keep off weight. But for the small group of people for whom it does not work, more extreme measures are necessary.
To help these metabolically resistant people, Dr. Atkins has modified what he calls “the most effective weight-loss eating pattern ever described.” British researchers Alan Kekwick and Gaston Pawan developed it, and Frederick Benoit and his team confirmed its superiority in burning off fat, compared to an absolute total fast. This extreme diet consists of 1,000 calories daily, comprised of 90 percent fat. No other weight-loss regimen has matched its ability to burn off stored fat. Dr. Atkins modified the Kekwick diet to make it as enjoyable as possible and dubbed it the “Fat Fast.” He tried it on scores of patients and found it often worked for those who were unable to lose weight in any other safe, drug-free way.
The Kekwick diet forces the body into lipolysis so it burns its stores of fat. Lipolysis cannot take place if there is a significant source of glucose. Since all carbohydrates and some protein convert to energy by way of glucose, eliminating almost everything but fat from the diet forces even the most resistant body into lipolysis. That explains the 90 percent dietary-fat component. Lowering the caloric intake accelerates the need to burn up body fat—thus the 1,000-calorie limit.
The Fat Fast is one controlled carb program where you do have to count calories. You’ll eat 1,000 calories a day, with 75 percent to 90 percent comprised of fat. Frequent feedings prevent hunger better than three meals a day, so you consume five feedings, perhaps one every four hours, comprising 200 calories each. Because of the high fat content and frequent feedings, very few people experience much hunger. The stumbling block for some people is the absence of conventional meals. But most are willing to stick with it for a few days, even if the food selections are unfulfilling.
Caution: The Fat Fast is actually dangerous for anyone who is not metabolically resistant. For people who lose weight fairly easily, the rate of weight loss is too rapid to be safe. But it carries very little risk for people who can barely lose on any other regimen.
Step One: Eat Mostly Fat Begin with five 200-calorie feedings per day and follow for four or five days. Each item equals approximately 200 calories:
one ounce of macadamia nuts or macadamia nut butter two ounces of cream cheese or Brie one ounce of tuna or chicken salad with two teaspoons of mayonnaise served in one-quarter of an avocado two deviled eggs made with two teaspoons of mayonnaise two ounces of sour cream and two tablespoons black or red caviar two and a half ounces whipped heavy cream topped with sucralose zero-calorie syrup two ounces of pâté (check label for fat content) two egg yolks (hard-boiled) with one tablespoon of mayonnaise
Step Two: Modify the Fat Fast If increasing the fat-to-carbohydrate ratio and cutting calories work, any dietary change in that direction might get the job done. Next, you can try four meals a day of roughly 300 calories for a total of 1,200 calories. That should work, too, and what it allows is definitely more appealing to the taste buds:
two ounces of beef chuck (do not drain fat) cooked in two tablespoons of olive oil two scrambled eggs with two strips of nitrate-free bacon two tablespoons of full-fat sour cream with a tablespoon of sugar-free syrup one-quarter cup chicken or tuna salad made with two tablespoons of mayonnaise three ounces of pâté (check label for fat content) one-and-a-half ounces of macadamia nuts
*Thanks to the Atkins Center for the above article.
I personally simplify this whole thing down to doing just the one ounce mac nuts servings in 5 small bags. Which is 5 ounces total for the day;)
My Recent Experience –
When I got back from enjoying my brother’s wedding in Hawaii I could still wear all my clothes that I always wear quite comfortably. That is a good thing but I point this out because though I don’t think someone should have to take their scale on vacation, it is still very important to get back on track once you are back from happily indulging.
Sometimes how your clothes fit isn’t enough of a gauge and leads to the weight creeping back up on us.
This is what happened to me – I got back and on Monday (5-2-11) weighing in at 129.1. That is definitely considered “Danger Zone” for me. I did as I now call the “nut fast” and this morning Wed.(5-4-11) I weighed in at 123.1.
So by tomorrow I should be back to what my body prefers which is 122.
As long as you keep on top of it, once you are at goal and everyday you have your new “set point” your body will strive to get back to that number.
That my friends is a very good thing 🙂
**A warning about the fat fast **
I want to point out two things about this “trick”.
You must go back to strict protocol after doing this (if on P2) or eat super clean afterward (P3&4) to give your body the time to adjust to the flux that just happened to it.
Basically giving you body a chance to be o.k. with the sudden release and not try to go back to the weight it was before.
The other warning is – Don’t do this for long, I would say 3 days MAX. I no longer have a gallbladder but those of you that do, the increase of fats in your system could aggravate the gallbladder and cause problems. Quite simply, you certainly don’t want that.
Can I do ur nut fast while on P2 and if yes, how often can one do it? Can I do it consecutively?
Hi,
Yes you can but I recommend that you do not do the nut fast any more than 3 days at a time. AND it is very important to eat VERY “clean” the days after a nut fast so you don’t experience “rebound” weight gain.
Hope this helps!~
Colleen =)
Do you have to eat Macadamia nuts or can you have Almonds instead?
HI Nancy,
Look at the complete fat fast post. there are a lot of “good fat” choices. As far as the nuts because the macadamia nut because it is such a perfect fat with MCT etc. that one I know gets a result. Maybe I need to “lab rat” myself once again so I can report the difference of the fat release result for everyone. I LOVE almonds but the times when I begin with Mac nuts but switch to almonds the release has not been as awesome. But I have not done almonds one day from beginning to end.
Hi Colleen, I’ve just tried ur recommended mac nut fat fast and it seems as if it’s working. I’ve got couple of questions that I hope u can answer: 1st when I woke up after day 1 of doing the ff I did the Ketone test & it showed that I only have trace amounts of Ketones. Shouldn’t it be pretty high considering I’ve been eating mac nuts all day the day before. I did lose the weigh, but this one is still bothers me??? 2nd can I do the ff on the off day from hcg injection- 1st day of ff with hcg, 2nd day of ff without & 3rd day with hcg once again??? So, what do you think would that work? Have u tried it?
Thank you so much in advance, enjoy ur day!!! 😀
Hi – I know what you mean about the ketone test,if you keep testing up to the 3 days it is interesting to watch the progression. On or off of HCG, the mac nut thing seems to work. I simply ask not to abuse it ( don’t be on it too long) and eat very CLEAN after, don’t think you can do it before a weekend of splurging.
If you do the weight will come back with a vengeance! 🙁
Hi Colleen, thanx for a quick response. Btw just wanted to tell you that you look awesome.
I’ve couple more questions to try & completely clear my confusion. 1st How often can I do the 3 ff days? Can I do it once a week? Since I don’t have much left to lose my weight loss kept on stalling every other day & I’m on day 15. I like consistency & I got that with the ff days 1st day -2.3lbs, 2nd day -1.5lbs, and today is my 3rd day- I’m really looking forward to the results. And this 3rd day brings me to my other question: I am doing a full round or so (until the moment I get to my goal), so I’ve taken on Thursdays as my skip days from hcg injections and since it is today & I am doing my 3rd ff day should I may be have the injection today & have an extra skip day next week during my tom days??? I just want the best results and I don’t know if it will change anything by not having the injection??? Help, thank you so much…
Colleen, I am on r1 phase 2 day12 …I have lost 14 pounds so far, but have been on a 4 day stall. I am going to do the Macadamia nut fast (fat fast) but, the only ones i can find have the sea salt….is this okay?
Hi Amy,
Yes, that is the type I use. Be sure and drink plenty of water =)
Hello Colleen,
I’m not on the hcg program, however I am interested in doing the fat fast with the item you have listed. I was previously on adkins and fell off and need to revive, any suggestion for getting on track?
Doing the fat fast will definitely kick start you back on track. After the fast you must eat really “clean” lean meat and low glycemic veggies and fruit to help lock in the fat loss from the fast. The original fat fast as you can see gives a lot of fat choices. For me doing the fast by using only macadamia nuts releases fat like no other. Plus far less work involved. I simply weigh out my 5 one ounce portions and put them in ziplock baggies and I’m good to go. Let me know how you do!
What are other meal choices for the fast besides the Mac nuts/cream cheese/tuna?
Hi,
Yes there is. Within the post are the other foods you can eat. People make deviled eggs, they eat avocados etc.
I have always chose to keep it simple with the nuts so I don’t have to buy and prep so much. Plus since the result is always satisfying it just works for me.
Hey, Colleen!
This is my 1st time on HCG, & I’m in P2/D23 & have lost 20#! I was wondering if I could do a Mac Nut Fat Fast the last day or 2 on HCG to push me closer to where I’d like to be at the end of this round or is waiting until P3 more effective?
I do have thyroid issues & normally can’t lose any weight regardless…
Thanks for all your info!!!
-Amy
Hi Amy,
Unless you are mentally ready to eat almost like you do on P2 right after the fat fast you should maybe wait. The fast is great but if you are too liberal afterward the fat you lost will bounce right back.
Colleen,
I am one of your loyal followers on HCG.. I am on R3 p2 but I keep hitting a brick wall these last two rounds at about 147. I am going to try 3 days fat fast. I’ve read your post and watched the you tube you have (seems like a gazillion times…) but I kept thinking it “has to be something I’m doing” but I’m beginning to think I am the metabolic resistant category… God bless the help you give by sharing your experience and ideas. I’ll let ya know how it goes…. Thank you!
Hi Debbie,
Definitely keep me updated.
Another reason why some weight amounts are “sticky points” is when you have been that weight for quite some time in the past.
But good news is once you push past it and then stay at a new weight for a long time ( like your goal weight) Then it will also be more difficult for your body to gain weight back. Now that I’ve said all that only you would know if the 147 has been a number in your past or not.
have a great week!
Colleen 🙂
HELP! i was at 130 lbs, and i felt and looked great.. i gained 10 pounds and i’m around 140-141 lbs now due to stress.. i gained all that over a period of a month, i NEED to lose the weight fast and get back on track so i can hit my ultimate goal of 120 lbs.. is there still hope? i am hoping that three days on the Fat Fast will bring me somewhere close to 130 (i’m aiming for an 8 pound release). so my question is, would it be OK to do a 4th day so i can get to 130 lbs again before going back on the protocol to reach my goal weight?
Hi,
Yes there is hope! I think ALL of us have a bit of the holiday indulge we need to get back on track from. But the good news is, if it is a quick gain and you address it quickly it sheds off quite nicely. As far as doing the nut fast for 4 days it depends on how you feel as you progress with it.If you still have your gallbladder I would say be extremely cautious. The fast flushes a lot of fat through and then out of your system which is wonderful but can put your poor gallbladder on overload.O don’t have a gallbladder anymore so I don’t need to be concerned about that but I do feel quite “loopy”if I try to stay on it past 2 or 3 days.
I did the mac nuts for 3 days on P2 on day 14 because of a stalled and lost a total of 5lbs, but once i went back to the 500 calorie it is now day 20 and I started gaining. I keep a journal of my meals and it has been clean and by the book, my meal consist of 100gms of fish for lunch with 100gms of cucumbers in apple cider vinger, 100gms chicken for dinner with same cucumbers, 2 sm apples through out the day and a gallon of water. Should i do an apple or go back to mac nut day or just stay with the 500 calorie even though i am gaining? I feel so lost.
This is the first time I have heard of this happening, hum…I don’t know why but I have a feeling about the cucumbers. You know how the “in thing” is drinking water with cucumber slices in it? before I knew about HCG I tried drinking my water that way figuring it would be healthier. I bloated, retained water and gained. Again why?? …I have no idea =/ So since I know it makes no sense but I want to ask, what other veggie are you willing to eat instead? What type of fish are you eating? Sorry for TMI but are your movements regular?
I know the “easy fix” is to go back on the fat fast but I prefer you didn’t.
I simply want to help and figure this thing out!
Colleen
Hey colleen
so i have been researching the fat fast and i have decided to do it i am on my 26th day of hcg and iv lost 14 the past week i have stalled so i decided to do the mac nut fast i did it yesterday and was really excited to weigh this morning but im showing that i gained a pound! I dont really know where to go from here i planned on doing the mac nut fast again today but i dont want to gain again. Any advice????
Hi Amanda,
You only ate mac nuts and only 5 one ounce servings total correct?
If the nuts had sea salt were you sure that you drank plenty of water so the salt would cause you to retain fluid? And be sure you didnt have anything else with sodium. There is a carbonated drink that I like that claims it has no sodium, calories etc but I swear if I drink them when doing the nut fast I shouldn’t even waste my time.
I just want to be sure you and I are on the same page. Also just like anything every “body” is different and can react differently even if the majority has this work for them. You could do an apple day (natural diuretic) to see if it is a retaining issue.
Hi Colleen,
I am R3 p2 vlcd 17 and I’ve been stalled on TOM for a few days. I was planning a 23 day round which puts my last day of hcg at this Friday starting p3 on Monday. I just started a fat fast today for the first time. I had a tbsp of cocoa crack around 11 am and was planning on sticking to just coconut oil all day and then I found your awesome site!:) So, I can do mac nuts today eventhough I’ve already had the cocoa crack? I wasn’t sure if I can mix them? Also, I was planning on just doing the fat fast today and then going back to vlcd for the remaining days until p3 (Monday). Do you think that will work? I’m 5lbs from my goal and I just want to get as close as possible without extending a round. Thank you for your help!!
Hi Tami,
Sorry I didn’t see this sooner!!!
The “fats” can be mixed I just choose to do only mac nuts. basically as long as the fat fast calorie count is correct you are fine.
When you are done with the fat fast the main thing is EAT CLEAN right after or the loss you experience will rebound.
I hope I have helped!
Colleen 🙂
I am on p2 day28 and the last couple of weeks I have started being more hungry and also have had 4 day stalls each week. At the end of last week I did your mac nuts fat fat and lost 4.5 lb in 3 days! Yay!!! Now I have stalled for 4 days again. Can I do the fat fast every week to end my stall? I have lost 14 lbs so far and would like to reach the 20 mark before done. I have 100 lbs to lose. Thanks you for your help, you are an inspiration to me to keep going for the goal!
Hi,
You can do the nut fast as you go along. But limit how many days straight you do it. I feel if you are going to increase the intervals please be aware of a few things. One , you are probably going to start getting sick and tired of eating the nuts. Also if you still have your gallbladder be careful because the fast flows so much fat through your system so it can leave your body it is over taxing on your gallbladder. The original theory was based on people that were metabolic resistant so be aware of that too. Lastly, one thing I would do during rounds to help finish each week strong was a “mini”steak day. That is simply one 4 oz lean steak and one apple for the day. That could be a alternate choice for you too.Keep me posted 🙂
Thank you ! I will ! 🙂
Hello! I had another question. I did the steak day and lost .8 then nothing. Now I am thinking about fat fast again. So yesterday I did mac nuts and lost 2lbs!!! I was wanting to know how many days I should go after a FF before Last Injection Day? I keep stalling and only lose if I do a steak day or the FF, so I am about ready to hang it up for this round. I have lost 17lbs ( not including loading weight) and am on day 31. Thank you for your help!
Hi Aidyl,
This advice is not based on fact but I feel it is best to give at least 5 days, but everyone is different. Bottom line super clean eating after the fast is mega important. whether injection are factored in or not.
Colleen =)
Can you explain “eating extremely clean” after the 3 day fat fast? Thanks
Hi Patti,
My answer depends on whether you are on HCG or not at the time. But basically lean meat, low glycemic fruits and veggies.
I am not on HCG. What are low glycemic fruits and veggies?
here you go!
http://www.loseit4ever.com/?s=low+glycemic
Right here in my blog I have the explanation 🙂
Hi Colleen, r1, p2 day 28.
I am doing fat fast days too, I am wanting to give you a run down on my foods I’m eating to see what you think.
Ok breakfast 2 whole eggs poached 2 slices of bacon fashions fried,
Lunch 30 grams of Brie chees and 50 grams of smoked salmon slices
Dinner 30 gr of full cream, 25 gr tasty grated cheese and 2 slices of bacon (made like a carbonara sauce on top of Shirataki noodles. They have 9 grams of carb but 9 grams of dietary fibre so I’m thinking that means zero net carbs. I’m sticking to 1000 cals and 90percent fat with barley any carbs mayb 2-4 carbs a day. If after that there’s more cals left il have Mac nuts salted, is this ok for a fat fast day? I want to do it cause it’s such a great break from protocol I’m doing injections straight round of 42 days, I’m on day 28 and so far have lost 16.7 pounds (7.7 kilos. I have lost an average of .6 a day, I would love to have a big loss on fat fast then back to protocol which consists for me of 1 apple, 100 grams of prawns one boiled tomatoe stir fried in water onion powder garlic powder and one pit of Shirataki noodles, same for dinner but instead of prawns 100 grams of lean mince meat. Then one orange after dinner. Sometimes I have 66 cals of no sugar diabetic chocolate crunch balls instead of my fruit, all up I don’t go over the 500 cals. The chockys are only 4 carbs, it’s only when I’m craving sugar. So what are your thoughts, am I doing this right?.. I value your opionion greatly. Some have said doing fat fast on p2 I’m playing with fire. But I do understand after the ff do the clean eating. I’m kind of wanting to do 3 ff then 4 protocol?. Can’t wait to read what you think.
Hi Lynnie,
About the foods since I have not done the fat fast with the variety of foods you are describing the only thing I can do is ask a question back to you?
You said “I have been doing” which means you are doing the fast already with the food listed. You have definitely been doing your do-diligence on making sure the fat percentages should line up. But bottom line, how have been your releases doing the menu you selected?
If the fat is peeling off that should answer your question. For me I prefer to eat fats that also have high health benefit properties. I ask myself, “I’m eating a high fat but what will this provide my body beyond the fat fast result”.
As we know avocados are a high fat food but look at all the commercials etc that are showcasing them as such a beneficial food for the body.
Do you see what I’m saying?
As far as P2. Like I have said about just about all aspects of protocol, the tricks we try etc, etc, every body is different and could react differently to what we try that some one else has done. I was so sure the fat fast could not work on P2. At that time an HCGer on FB would post each day these awesome releases and I finally decided I simply had to just try it for myself to really know. I was floored when it not only worked but was awesome!
Hope this helps!
Colleen
Hi Colleen,
Thanks so much for replying so quickly. You made perfect sense, the first day I did my version of ff I lost one pound the 2 nd .6 and the third zero. I think I will try and stick to protocol as I might be like you said not eating necessarily what’s good for my body which has made me see it’s kind of defeating the purpose. It’s more like loading but making sure I don’t go past 1000 cals, maybe this will be great for occasions on p3. I’m going to try your Mac nut day though, I need to try these things for my own curiosity, I will do that and days I plateau I will do the steak day or and apple day. I will try though to stick to protocol as much as I can I just get disappointed cause I keep stalling on them and it can get disheartening, stil I am loosing and am feeling fantastic, so who am I to complain.?
Thank you so much again for answering my call for help, just watching your vlogs all the time keeps me inspired. Your the best and so happy for you too.
Hugs and love to you xox
Thankyou
Also Hun one quick question what are your thoughts on the Shirataki noodles? Did you have them, and does the dietary fibre come off the carb amount, if that is true then the noodles have a zero content of everything, kind of like air?.but yummy. Did you have them on p2?
Hugs n love again
Hi Lynnie,
This is a hard one to give advice about because I have never tried them. never been a noodle eater. When my kids make Ramen it looks very unappealing to me. But this is what I have heard about them. Some HCGers really like them a lot and even think it helps with their release. While there are other peeps that say even though they like to eat them it causes them to stall or gain.
Then there is the 3rd batch of HCGers that looked forward to them but once tried think they are completely gross. So this one goes back to every body is different. If you decide to try them journal when you do and see what happens the next day. If they work with your system and you like them then you will know it can be a food you can incorporate.
Colleen 🙂
Hi Colleen, can one use chocolate delight on fat fast? if so, how much?
Thanks!
Hi Again,
I guess you could try and see what happens . Chicolate Delight and me never seemed to get along very well. But hey ever BODY is different and I know there are others that do well with it. But you should factor in the calories of the other ingredients. That is why I like just the mac nuts…less to have to calculate. 😉
Hi Colleen,
Hope you’re doing well today…I did the fat fast for 3 days and lost 4 pounds!!! Yaaaaaaay!! Soooo excited…and back to P2 today on strict protocol. What I wanted to ask you is what do you think about alternating fat fast and VLCD during P2? Like doing fat fast for 3 days straight and then doing VLCD for 3 days and back to fat fast for 3 days, etc?? I am really thinking of doing this to try to increase my losses. Please let me know your thoughts or if you have tried this….thanks so much for all you do!!! Jodi
Hi Jodi,
Congrats on your great results!!
Since the idea is to shake up your metabolism when it becomes resistant I don’t think you should do the fast that often.
Sorry I know it is tempting to want to do it more often because the results are so good.
When i was doing my round I would opt to do a “mini Steak Day” on the last day of each week. That always seemed to help keep the numbers on the scale moving downward. All it is, is one 4 oz steak and one apple. You can divide the steak up but I preferred to wait and have it for dinner.
Keep me posted on your progress.
Colleen 🙂
Hello! I intend to start FF tomorrow, i was wondering if someone could tell me if this menu is ok:
Pork roast, shoulder, cooked 2 slices
Egg, whole, fried 2
Avocado, raw HALF
Mayonnaise, regular 2 tablespoon
Cheese and egg Pancake
Butter 1 tablespoon
Tuna, canned 1 oz
Almonds, unroasted 12
Its 938 calories and 78% fat is this ok? If not, How can i improve it? Thanks in advance!
Hi Lola,
Personally I think Good fats is the best way to do the fat fast. But since your list is pretty close to the Atkins list of foods you could try it and see how it works for your system. As they say every body is different so what can work for one person might be different for another. Let me know how it goes.
Colleen
hi Collen I am so excited came across your comment, I’m on 17 day p2… I am so sad right now caused I had no lost for the last 5 days in fact I have been gaining instead. I did apple day and did not helped. Also my breast are very heavy . And my question is if you think that I may be ovulating? and do you think the nut fast may help me go trough this? for the last, where do you recommend for buying HCG?
Thanks, you look funtastic!!!
Hi Ami,
To be able to help you I would need to know more info. What type of HCG method are you using? I’m concerned you might not be on real HCG. You can click through on the link in my blog to buy from ReliableRX. I have purchased several times from them and they are very good. You could try the nut fast but have you also tried the cali kicker, increased your water intake etc.? You probably know your cycle better than I would but if TOM is coming it could be why you are experiencing how you feel.
Let me know so I can help you more.
Colleen 🙂
When doing a fat fast, can Atkins food products, specifically the snack bars, be used as a meal? Or one for each of the 5 meals? Just wondering because they do have some sugars in them.
thx
Hi Anne,
Sorry for the delay, I was gone for the Holiday.
I would not recommend it since the fat fast is based on a ration of fat percentage (good fats preferred) being consumed. Sugar and even protein could throw off the result.
After trying the fat fast, how many days of “clean” eating should that be followed by to “lock” in the losses? Or is one day sufficient?
Also, since the Atkins bars cannot be used for a fat fast day, can they be used for a “clean” day. I just like having the convenience, if possible.
thx for your feedback.
Hi Anne,
I think the bars would be ok for clean days when not on a round.
I would say the amount of clean days depends on if you are still doing rounds or are pretty much stabilized.I guess I should say you have already reintroduced most foods back into your food plan.Example. If I decide to do a Monday, Tuesday fast eat clean the next 3 days the weekend wont have a rebound. Let me know if I can help with any other questions.
Colleen 🙂
Hi colleen! I am going to start the fat fast tomorrow but have a few questions… I dont do HCG, so what do I eat after the fat fast? Just pure protein? How many calories. You seem to be an expert. Also, if you eat “clean” will you gain any weight back? like water weight? or do you really loose mostly fat? Also, I’m an avid runner (just went a little crazy with the food over the holidays lol) can I workout/run while on the fast or will I keel over? I want to shed the holiday pounds (I’m a lot like you, 120 is my perf weight, I went a little crazy and am around 127-129 now… danger zone….). Thanks!!
Hi,Colleen
Can I do fat fast day with the HCG protocol meals, but just add the total 5 oz of Mac nuts. Basically can I eat what is on p2 of the hcg ( chicken breast, veg, fish, etc…) and just add the nuts and still lose some type of weight?
So sorry that this comment wasn’t seen till now!
Adding the mac nuts along with the other protocol food is not what I would do. Some people do eat a couple of mac nuts while on P2 but many times it backfires on them because they eat too many. If I do the mac nuts that is the only food I eat on the fat fast.
Hi Colleen,
I am a 38 years old on HCG drops Phase 2 Day 33. I lost total of 14 pounds incluiding 1 apple day and 1 day of Mac fat fast. I hit a stall 3 times during this 33 days. I tried apple day and lost a pound only. I am following the diet perfectly, taking L Carnetine, going to bathroom regularly, I am not bloaded. I just don’t loose as fast as other people.
I tried the mac fat fast yesterday and lost only 0.8 pounds. I will countiue the mac fat fast but I am so discouraged.
I don’t think I developed immunity to HCG either cos I don’t feel hungry at all.
I would appreciate your comments on my situtation.
Thanks
Dee
Hi Dee,
Try stopping the L- Carnitine and see how you do. Are you taking any other Aminos as well?
Not that they are bad but seeing weight loss on the scale can definitely slow down. Example L- Carnitine helps rebuild muscle after workout muscle tear down and accelerates muscle growth. Along with that retains water around the muscle to help protect it during its recovery. I’m not an Expert” this just what I have learned, read up on and if I took it in the past it definitely slowed my progress WAY down. It is a tough call because of course it is better to have ample muscle mass to help keep your metabolism going good but when you want to see the numbers on the scale drop it can play quite the mind game on you!
Colleen 🙂
I am on the HCG drops approx. 3 weeks…lost 12 lbs 1st week…then this last week nothing….at a standstill….the mac nuts in 5 bags….do I understand this to be completely alone without any other food?….or do I continue with the 500 cal hcg diet?
Hi!
The mac nuts fast is all alone. You do want to drink plenty of water to help flush out the fat that wants to exit and you can have tea or coffee if you want.
Since you did so well the 1st week don’t be discouraged about the 2nd because your body is probably adjusting and is doing inch loss mode for this week.
Since this is “pounds & Inches” remember to take into account both ways of shrinking. 🙂
Do I take the drops during the FFD ?
Hi Maria,
I was able to do the fat fast when on a round taking HCG. The thing is that every body’s system is different so you will need to decide if you want to do the fat fast during your round or not. Especially since in theory the fat fast shouldn’t work with the protocol even though it did for me and many other HCGers. Same goes for some HCGers swear by having a few mac nuts along with their protocol menu. I didn’t do well with adding the nuts along with the other protocol foods. For me the mac nuts have to be consumed alone for the best result.
Hope this helps.
Colleen 🙂
Hi Colleen,
I’m currently on a round of HCG and after a stall of 8 days decided to do a Fat Fast. I lost 5 lbs in 3 days and then cont the fat fast for 2 more days and maintained. Yesterday I went back to strict P2 menu and had chicken and cucumbers with apple. I was up 2 lbs this morning 🙁 What in the world?!! Don’t know what to do.. I’ve kind of jumped back on fat fast this morning but I’m not sure if that’s the right thing or not? Please help! I still need to lose about 10 lbs this round! THanks!
~Jenny
Hi Jenny,
Did you do the mac nut fast or the traditional fat fast with the various choices?
I think if you had the chicken going back into p2 and maybe waited on adding in the fruit a bit longer that could have helped. You might think I’m silly but my gut feeling is the cucumber might have been the culprit. I don’t know what it is but those things always seem to cause water retention for me. Even though people rave about cucumber water and all it seems to have the opposite effect on me. The fat fast should only be temporary so definitely get back to your p2. protein after the fat fast is best and remember even sugar from fruit should be added back to your plan slowly. Think low -glycemic with your fruit which the fruit allowed on protocol pretty much is.
HI Colleen
I did the traditional fat fat w/various choices. So I guess I’ve already spoiled today since I’ve been doing fat fast foods :-/ So I guess just start strict back to P2 tomorrow but leave out the fruit for a few days? How long do you think i should leave out the fruit? Also I’m pretty sure I was probably even below my 500 cal yesterday so do you think not eating enough may have been another factor in weight gain in addition to the fruit?
THanks!
Jenny
Hi Jenny,
I don’t know if not having the full 500 cal would do it though you and I know you should make sure you get that in. 🙂
But another thing we haven’t gone over is your water intake. If you weren’t drinking enough that could have caused the gain too.As far as the fruit if you can get by with just the veggies and protein for the first 2 or 3 days I think that will help. Or 1 day then add back in super slowly by not having the complete serving for a couple of days.
I also recommend drinking a cali kicker everyday, those help in so many ways!
Hey Colleen ,
Thank you so much for your quick replies! I defnitely have been drinking tons of water lol! So I will stick to the protein and veggies for a few days to start out with! What do you recommend I do to finish out today since I’d kind of jumped back on fat fast today out of sheer desperation and not knowing what to do? I’ve had around 400 or so calories so far of fat fast food 🙁 Not sure what to do the rest of the day & now I”m super scared about another gain tomorrow 🙁 What do you suggest?
Hi Jenny,
You better stick with finishing out the fat fast today but lean toward good fats, avocados, mac nuts(if I had my way I would of had you do only mac nuts) etc.
When I have done the mac nut fast I can still drink the cali kicker too even though it has lemon juice it it. But I haven’t done the fat fast method with various foods any more than one day so i don’t know if the cali kicker would work with the food variety. Once I tried and liked the mac nut method I stuck with it, and I like that the cali kicker is compatible.
Thank you so much for sharing the mac fat flush……or else i would’ve never done it and I’m a hardcore staller, it sucks. But this breaks my stalls every time!!
I’m on R2P2D10….and currently in the middle of day 2 of my fat flush.
Yesterday i did strick macadamia nuts, and drank 6ltrs of water……i woke up today with 3lbs gone!!!!!!
But i did wake up with serious nausea and massive headaches……both of these symptoms severity went up and down through out the day.
But through out the day i got one ounce of mac nuts in me and was extremely neasous….i could not bring a nut to my mouth with out gaging……and then my heartburn went through the roof!!! i was to the point of dizziness…..so i thought i would mix my fats. Which turned out good! I ate 2 ounces of cream cheese and felt instantly better!!! So as of for the rest i will get creative and switch up my fats……
i want to do the flush for 3 days.
What are your thoughts on these symptoms??
And can i eat more than one round of eggs in one day during the fat flush?? I don’t seem to mind them.
Thanks!! Ilove your blog!!!!
Hi Marnia,
I too have gotten quizzy if I do the mac nut more than a couple of day. By day 3 I think I even vlogged that I felt a bit “loopy”. With cleanses, fasts and flushing our system sometimes the process can cause some unpleasant symptoms. It is part of the “purging” process. I remember Before I ever did HCG I tried a cleansing fast and felt sore and I was stuffed up like I had a cold but I didnt. It was the gunk trying to get out of my system (yuck). Also with the fat fast if you still have a gallbladder dink a lot of water to help flush the fat out as quick as possible. This is another reason you should do the fat fast for many days. You don’t want the gallbladder to have issues. Also with the Mac nuts they are a natural constipation so too many days doing the mac nut fast will have you running for the bathroom. I have a friend from Hawaii and he said that is what mac nut oil is known for. I also think sometimes the quizzy feeling and heartburn is also from the increase of fat (overload) that is having to be processed through before it can finally exit. For me personally doing the mac nuts is such a great source to get MCT in your system. That and the simplicity of not having to figure out the amounts of other fats is why it was my “go to” But since you are having good success with mixing fats that’s great! I cant say about the eggs because I didn’t do it. Remember my advice is only based on my personal experience or if I have read up on something and then tried it and knew it worked for me. I am not a doctor or nurse, just someone that hopes to help people with what I have learned on my journey.
Thanks,
Colleen
Yikes!! I am so sorry I misspelled you name.
My typing isn’t the greatest =/
OH i forgot to ask as well, can i do a mini steak day after 2 days of fat flush??
Hi Marnia,
You could and that might be a good way to ease back into the protocol. But bear in mind you will be experimenting. I don’t recall doing that so I can’t share how that would work out.
Hello I have a couple questions regarding a macnut day! I read you use macacdamias that are dry roasted salted? Is that right?? Mine are plain raw should I add salt??
Hi Tania,
If you can handle the nuts plain that is fine.
It is just that if you eat the roasted and salted it won’t hinder the loss.
Hi I have just been diagnosed with gallstones. A lot of them ! will have to have it removed I think. Can I still do the nuts only for next 3 days? Thanks
My reply is SO Late!…SORRY!
Did you have the surgery? I had already had gallbladder surgery before HCG or the Fat fast and I did just fine.
I am just now updating my site and will be more on top of info you need….I appreciare your patience!
